In a few 98 and 99 vehicles with modified transmissions and High stall torque converters we have seen a pretty fair percentage that have shift point and rev limiter issues, some vehicles were easily repiared with a quick and basic programming change, others have not and still continue to have sparatic problems. All appropriate and standard software changes are being made including Torque management, Gear ratio/Tire diameter along with Vehicle Speed vrs Shift points.
I'm asking of anyone who may have had this problem to please post the prodution date and last 8 numbers of thier VIN, we are looking for a common denominator that has proven to be fairly elusive as of yet. We feel we are on the right track, but do not want to proceed further without some additional feedback.
This issue has not effected 2000 on up C5's that we have seen to date nor has it affected LS1/LT1 F-bodies and earlier LT1 C4's wich all use a variation of the same transmission bieng the 4L60E.
Thank you in advance for all your help, shared thoughts and experiences regarding issue being very welcome.
Frank,
I'm glad someone besides myself has discovered this problem! I have a modified 1999 coupe, everything but a stock bottom end. I have a ProTorque 2400-2800 with 3.73 gears. I am waiting on my new Yank ST3800 to be built.
I have Ls1 Edit and have used it exstensivly. I fixed the 2-3 shift at wot but the 1-2 is a problem. I also have the upgraded TransGo kit installed on my beefed up 4L60E. If you want to discuss this further, send me a phone # and a good time to call.
Thanks for the reply C5man99, thats exactly the problem we are seeing ourselves.
At first we thought we were making a mistake with the trans build, but then we started to see it on cars that were only converter equipped also. To make matters worse, it doesnt seem to follow any specific pattern, it just randomly happens.
The problem we've found is that PCM does not call for a 1st -2nd shift during the issue. But in running various scanning systems including AUTOTAP, we still have not been able to lock down on the cause. Thats why I asked for production dates and VIN#'s on cars being effected on this so way we may better narrow down the issue.
Call me anytime at 1-646-436-2811, It's currently Sunday evening just after you had sent your post, I'll be waiting.
