Just got back from Mobile Dragway's $5k Footbrake Nationals and we brought some $ back with us! The track is 60' short (600' vs 660') and the temps Fri nite were in the 20's! Brrrr! so we ran a best of 7.57 @88mph. There were 100 plus cars, all bad-a** door cars and a few dragsters with the delay box's un-plugged so it was quite the battle. We were in our nearly stock (see mods below) C5 with Emily's teenage boyfriend diving against 100 plus seasoned racers....and they had 2-3 track officials watching our every run with a microscope! They sat at the starting line looking in the windows to see if we were cheating.....they couldn't believe a kid in a daily driver was beating all the best pro-racers :D We got down to the 1/8's and beat the local track champ....he waits at the ET shak for us and then spins gravel all over the vette!!!! He was like 6'6" & 280# (or at least looked like it) so we refrained from expressing our disgust in his poor sportsmanship ( was his name Bubba? or Billy-joe-Bob.) Well, this little daily driven C5 with stock motor /tranny/TC and a kid driving kicks all their butt's down to the semi-finals, and then we pull up in the staging lanes and they line-up behind us. They were pretty convincing when they expressed a desire to split the purse, so we agreed :D Came home with $1500 and got out alive! Best part was demonstrating that our daily driven vettes can compete with the best of them and come out on top!!! To all, get thee to your nearest Corvette Challenge series this season and hone your skills!!!! You to can have fun & make $ :D
I'll tell ya, those local boys sure new how to run on that track! We ran several that were dead on with a 1, 3, 5, etc. Luckily we were also! One round we won the guy was .499 red and ran dead on with a 5. We would have lost had he not red-lit!!! :D
Congratulations!! Nice job!
BTW, out of curiosuty do you know what the DA was? 20-30 degress, these cars definetly love it.
My weather machine gives an adjusted reading that started at -430 some thing and ended at -800 some thing. The car loved it! Traction was the issue (& scrapping ice off the windows!!) so we just ordered the 315 DR's.
