Default Gainesville Points event...

I went to Gainesville this past weekend for their two day Summit points event...I am not in for points but needed seat time foot braking...I am entered in a big money foot brake event next month and I have never foot fed the truck, so...I towed the 3 hours on Friday night arriving at the track at midnight...unloaded the truck and headed off to the motel...it was pretty cold and windy...wind chill was in the 30's which is cold for us floridians...

Left the motel Saturday morning and it was 37* with a wind chill of 34*....dang!...anyway, got to the track, wiped down the truck and teched in...they gave us one time shot...I was rusty as expected and was 58 on the tree leaving at 2200 rpm...the truck went 6.45 into a 20 mph headwind...three weeks ago with the same sort of weather at this track it went 6.32....the difference is the leaving off the foot at 2200 rpm versus the button at 3500 rpm...

They called me up for first round and I was late on the tree again with a 48 light ...my opponent was 18 so game over on that deal...I bought back in, of course...second round I missed the tree again with a 46 tree to my opponents 21..in the first round I whomped and tightened up the stripe taking it by .006 and scraping 4 mph...second round I scraped 3 mph and fed him the stripe...I was driving decently, at least...

Sunday morning was much warmer at 46*... I made a change to my front tire pressure adding 12 lbs. to each...I guess it worked since I had a 20 light on my time shot...yippee!!!...the truck went 6.49, four numbers slower than yesterday...hmmm...first round I get a friend in his 68 camaro dialed 5.98...I put 6.49 on mine and off we went...btw, I added another 5 lbs. to the front skinnies...I was 22 on the tree to his 58...ooooh baby...unfortunately my truck could not get there going 6.54 with my foot in the radiator...wth?...he went dead zero, ftw...qwap!...

As I turned off the track I noticed my oil pressure was down 10 lbs....oops...I limped her back to my pit with 55 lbs. of pressure...a week before this we changed the oil and some stuff was on the drain plug and the oil looked nasty with 78 runs on it...I guess that was a signal...I decided not to buy back and I put it on the trailer...I am hoping it is a reasonable fix since this motor is coming out in 10 days to put in my brand new, all forged, 406...my plan is to sell the current 385 carb to pan...we'll have to see now...sigh...

I towed home arriving at 9:30...I accomplished my goal of shaking off the footbrake rust...I also had a ball, as usual, so it was a good weekend...the motor issue, oh well...that's drag racing as we all know...next up is hopefully testing the new power plant and then off to Gulfport, Ms. for the $25 granders off the foot on St. Paddy's day...
