a couple of questions for you guys,i have just begun drag racing i have a 77 with a th350.i have found first to be a little to short so am launching in 2nd and hitting 3rd just as i cross the finish line.Do you guys launch in first, then shift to 2nd, then third ?Launch in 3rd ?i have standard 3.08 gears.
any help as always would be much appreciated thank you
best so far 9.3 for 8th mile........13.9 for quarter :steering:
Why launch in 2nd gear, if you don't mind my asking? Wheel-spin? To large a drop in RPM on the 1-2 shift? I'm not aware of anybody I know who drags, and leaves in 2nd gear...Congrats on the 13-second ETs; WHATEVER you're doing, it seems to work!!!
Hmmm. Fix that posi, put on some 'sticky' tires (what tires are you running now?), and have fun. If you're running a THM350, the standard gears (I run extra-low gears in my THM400) are 2.52:1 1st, 1.52:1 2nd, and 1:1 3rd gear. :chevy
I run BFG T/A Radials (the 'old' style from the '70s) on my stock '82 Vette; I'm not familiar with BFG 'Euro'; they 'may' not be good for drag racing. 20+ years ago, I ran 14.20s @ 97+ in my Z28 on GR70/15 UNIROYALS w/ 3.42 rear gearing, no-posi, and LEAVING in 1st gear. 10+ years ago, I ran the Z28 into the 13.40-range @ 104, on 'McCreary' *DIRT* tires, w/ 4.10:1 gears and posi, behind approx 420 (?) HP, and it hooked then, too. N-Z, if your RPMs drop approx 66% on the 2-3 shift (if you shift @ 4500, 66% is 3000), your THM350 'probably' has the stock gears in it...
