I have never raced on a track before. I have a stock 2000 Coupe. Well almost (getting stingers on tomorrow). Anyway I will be going to the track soon and I don't know how to come out. Idle? 1K, 2K, 3K???? I have fooled around on the street, Oops I mean in the driveway and anytime I launch at anything but idle the dash starts to shake out of the car and I hopping like crazy. Any suggestions??
Tells us a little more, automatic, 6 speed, tires, etc.
My first guess would be you have run flats. They won't hook up very well and with the stiff side walls you can expect some wheel hop. That will shake everything in the car.
As for launching on street tires, try for no wheel spin and accelerate as hard as your available traction will allow. On street tires skip the water go around if possible.
This is what I do. First off, I'm at around 500lb ft. of torque, 4 speed manual transmission, 4.11 gears & 215/70/15 TAs. So if it works for me it should work for you.
I do light dry hop to get the water off of my tires (our track doesn't leave any room to drive around the water pit if you're on street tires). I get to the staging line. I tach my motor up to 3000RPMs. Here's the tricky part, when you see the last yellow you need to ease out on the clutch. Don't mess with the gas until the car is rolling and you have the clutch completely out. You don't want to dump the clutch, just ease out of it (slip it). Once you are rolling nail the gas.
That is the only way I could get any traction with my car. I pulled 2.0-2.1 60' times on those pizza cutter tires with all the torque my motor was putting out.
