Re: Anyone racing this weekend?????????? (mackeyred96)
I'm taking my 93 A4 Coupe to HRP (Houston Raceway Park) Sunday afternoon. I just picked this car up the end of May, can't find any mods from previous owners and all I've done is muffler elim's. I want to baseline my Vette before I do any other mods. HRP's Sunday night racing is what they call "instant green" meaning prestage, stage, green. No good for reaction times but I don't need that to get a baseline ET/MPH for this car. The car runs good and my Gtech pro/comp has given me numerous high 13's, the best ET coming on a run where I ran 2nd gear thru the lights. Got to love those 2.59's. :U On that run I was turning just under 5900 rpm at the 1320 in 2nd gear. I know I'm falling off the HP peak a bunch by then but it still seems better than making the shift to 3rd 1 to 1.5 sec's before the finish. I'll try both at the strip and see which way actually pays off the best.
Also, taking the Gtech along to use during the runs, we'll see how close it comes to real world ET slips. :)
I'll try some different launch's but does anyone have suggestions what seems to work best for a stock LT1 with factory converter? Do I go from idle or lean on the stall? (all 1500 rpm of it  ) Or somewhere in the middle like holding 1000 rpm?
It's been some time since I've done any racing, I'm looking forward to being back on the track! :D :D
BTW, I believe this car should go something like 13.8, does this sound right?
Oh yea, I'll have 93 octane pump gas in it. Is there any benefit on a stock LT1 if I add some of the race gas they sell at the track?
Thanks for any answers to my questions and I'll post time slips next week.

Glade to hear your going to the track, I hope you know this won't be your last trip. As for fuel I still only run 94 pump gas, race fuel is not needed. I think you've got everything else on the money. As much as I HATE G -tech
13.8 is about right pending on weather and track condititions. As for launch you'll just have to try a few different was to see what works best, byt from my experiance with your set up, I'd just take the slack out of the drive line and try it there.
Good luck and have fun, let us know how you do.

Let hear from all the VETTE owners who are headed to the strip this weekend. :steering:
EVERY weekend (in season). I got back from the RMR Funny Car Fever races, about midnight, last night. A looong hot day in the never ending sun. The DA's ranged from just over 7100' to just under 8100'. Racing ranged over an eleven hour period, for me, and *I* didn't make the finals. But third place ain't bad. Have I ever said I'd rather be lucky than good? You bet! And I was really, LUCKY, yesterday.

Thanks John, I'm really looking forward to this even tho' the weather conditions could be a lot better for racing. It's been to long and I can't wait any longer. I know this is going to "set the hook" all over again so I'll be a regular at HRP in the future. Can't wait until I get the 383 back in my Monte, that's my main focus for drag racing mods as of now. Maybe once I get that back together and sorted out I'll turn my attention to the Vette! I don't really think I can afford to have 2 cars living in mod world but I'm gonna try.
