I have been looking at my time slips and I don’t understand, how is it that I have slower 1/4 time but higher speeds. For Example: I ran 14.4 at 98mph. And I lost to someone who ran 96 mph at 13.5. These aren’t accurate numbers I'm just using them for example. If I'm at a higher speed shouldn’t I get there first?
All of the factors mentioned above are important. With our corvettes, there are big differences in the power curves of the different engines. I have noticed that the L-98 engines (1989 up to 91?? ... not sure) seem to produce very good low end torque, but not a lot of top end power, so many of those cars are in the mid 13s at under 100 mph. In my case, with a 68 bigblock, even tho it is "supposed" to be producing a ton of torque, my typical run is 14 seconds at 102 mph.
Being serious for a moment... I think he is talking about an ALL OUT run ..& not hitting the breaks...
Traction & chassis set up is the key factor to running quick ET.. Horse Power will give you higher MPH..
Example.. my 96 is really close to stock.. (stock heads & cam) but it has run as quick as 12.28 but only 110 mph.. now if you look at a LT1 or LS1 with NO2 & street tires, it will probably run 117-120 but still the same ET as me..
The difference is..in the 60' time I'm quicker in 60' but he has more HP and is going faster than me at the 1/8 mile & will be gaining on me the 2nd half of the track..
Look at NHRA records.. you will see cars running very quick ET but not as much MPH as you think they should..
In reality their MPH is good.. but their ET is FANTASTIC in comparison to the MPH.. the reason is they have a GREAT chassis set up & they are putting ALL their HP to the track..
Maybe one of the guys with a TRACK car can explain it better than I did..
:seeya Dan...we met at the Fl Challenge when you came down...Insanity is correct..the guy you lost to was measuring the stripe...he let off the throttle or was on the brakes....in the last challenge I had a run of 14.64 @ 99.03 mph and 2 runs later I went 13.76 @ 92.80...this is because I was racing my opponent and trying to just clip him at the stripe...bracket racing is all about the win light, not ET's or mph...good luck
