Need Some Input, RE: Setting Up Elimination Brackets
Need some input from the "pro's" :) I'll be running some "fun drags" using ET brackets next month. Have about 80 cars in the mens class, about 30 in the womens class. I've set up 6 arbitrary brackets.
Here's the question: In the first round of eliminations, should the runs be random, or should "bye" runs be based on the ET from time trials?
In the second, third rounds, the bye will be given to the car with the best reaction time, as is standard.
BUT....how about that first round? Random? Line em up in the staging lane and run them off, and if there is an odd number, the last guy gets the bye. What to you think? TIA. Chuck
Re: Need Some Input, RE: Setting Up Elimination Brackets (Power Shifter)
I would do it randomly as I have done in other events I've run, BUT I'm concerned if I have a small number of cars in any one class. Let's say I have one 3 car class....the last car in line is automatically in the "trophy" run. Not concerned if I have 15-20 cars per class in the first round.....it's just those small classes. Chuck

Preferences from a seasoned bracketeer. Don't give the last car in line the bye, first round. Randomly pick a car up front, and have it pull to the side, to run the "potential" bye. People catch an fast. Soon you will create a "race" for last in line. This just slows everything down. With the help of some different people, have one, pick a number between 1 and X. Where "X" is the number of staging lanes. Then have someone else pick a number between 1 and 4 or 6. This represents the car in the chosen lane that gets the bye. Our track gives the subsequent round byes to the car that runs closest to it's dial. Best RT is just as good. One thing my track does, that NO track should do, is, in the case of an uneven number of survivors, it allows the bye to run first. In the case of breakage or someone not making the call, for what ever reason, the last remaining car then gets an unearned single. That is bull defecation! Keep it fair, and consistant. Good luck, and...
