IRP
Don't concern yourself with what the 'big hitters' run, unless that is your ONLY reason for going racing.
Work on 'YOUR' consistency; how you prep the car, how (IF?) you do a burn-out, how you stage, shift, etc.
Come up with a series of events before a run in prepping your car (check the PSI in your tires, clean your windshield, add fuel, etc.) that 'works' for you; once you get a 'rhythm' going, 'YOU'LL' be more consistent run-to-run, and soon, this consistency will 'carry-over' to the cars' consistency, which is what 'WINS' at the brackets. When you and the car become VERY consistent, as you wait in the Staging Lanes for the 2nd Round of eliminations, be sure to 'wave' to the 'big hitters' as the tow home!!!
That being said, did you run a full tank of gas? Most first-timers think they'll go MUCH faster with a half, or near-empty tank. In 'theory', this IS true, but ONLY if traction is not a problem. A full fuel tank weighs nearly 100 pounds, and located over the rear axle, helps 'PLANT' the tires, ensuring the best possible launch. If you don't 'hook', you'll NEVER 'go-fast', no matter how much HP you're making; just watch T/F & F/C next time.
Have fun, be safe, keep us posted, and GOOD LUCK!!!
