Default Back for more

a few of you might remember my last post in this section a few weeks ago after my 1st time at the track when I was a little disappointed with myself.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=658299

Anyways I went back for more last night and did much better. Not great, but better. My only mods are in my Sig. I'm using Yokohama AVS runflat tires and they were at 31psi just before the 1st run.

Here are the results from the 3 runs I made

Reaction - 0.6644
60' - 2.3198
330' - 6.0249
1/8 - 8.9597
1/8 - 83.31mph
1000' - 11.4317
1/4 - 13.5085
1/4 - 108.25mph

Reaction - 0.2279 :banghead:
60' - 2.5228
330' - 6.2516
1/8 - 9.2093
1/8 - 83.48mph
1000' - 11.7152
1/4 - 13.8075
1/4 - 108.12mph

Reaction - 0.8690
60' - 2.5277
330' - 6.2711
1/8 - 9.2278
1/8 - 83.61mph
1000' - 11.7342
1/4 - 13.8344
1/4 - 109.67mph

I was launching the car at 1500 rpm. On the 1st pass I did a burnout, but on the 2nd pass I only did a small burnout. On the 3rd one I just drove around the burnout box and went to the line cold. I don't know if it's just in my head, but doing the burnout seems to help me get better traction.

On the 1st 2 runs, I shifted @ 6000rpm, but on the 3rd run I shifted @ 5500rpm. No difference in time, but the MPH was faster on the 3rd run. Where should I be shifting?

I'm thinking that I might try to launch the car at a higher RPM (~2000) next time and use the clutch more to keep the wheel from spinning. Also, should I try to lower the rear tire pressure some, or is that useless with runflats.

Now I've just got to figure out what I did to get a 2.0863 60' time last time I was at the track. Even though I had to lift off the gas before the 1/8 mile mark, I still crossed the line @ 8.7469

Any advice you have to help would be appreciated. I know that 60' has to improve.

Keith lower the pressure to about 25, not much will change but let's give it a shot.

By the way, the Bulldog, is it yours or is it UGA?

Here are a few things to consider from my experience:
1) Was there traction for other racers?

2) What was your actual tire pressure for each pass?

3) How much time in between passes? Why am I asking this? Answer -> When making passes, You create heat in the tires. You may start at 25psi after making 3 passes in 15 to 20 minutes you maybe up to 27 or 28lbs, As for some vehiles like mine - I need to be at 25.5 (No less or no more)

4) Tire condition? How do the tires look? Do you have a rubber roll to the edge of the tire? What do I mean by this? You need to check the tires after a pass, Not after you return to the lanes again. You need to turn off the track and then pull over to look at the rubber roll on the outer most part of the tires. The rubber roll should be on the edge. Not on the side wall or 1/8 to a 1/4 of a inch in from the edge of the tire. This is something you will need to play with untill you find the correct tire pressure.

5) Vehicle weight. How much does the vehicle weigh? How much does the front half weigh? How much does the rear weigh? Measure from the center cap of the front wheel to the center cap of the rear wheel and divide it by 2. Mark the vehicle at the half way point. Place the car on the scale and see where you are at. I know sometimes you will need a full tank of gas and may have to add some weight to the rear of the vehicle. The idea is to have the vehicle 50/50.

Good Luck and let all of us know how you make out.

1. No one said anything either way, but one guy set a new track record, so i guess it was pretty good

2. don't know, I'll do that next time

3. usually at least 30 min, sometimes more

4. I'll look at that next time too

5. I had less than 1/8 of a tank of gas when i got there, only a gallon when i left. Last time i had about 2/3 of a tank, would that make a difference?

Thanks for the info.

This is getting complicated very quickly.
