Yeaterday I raced in a big money event at Sunshine Dragway in Pinellas Park, Fl. at an 1/8 mile track !....not only had I never raced an 1/8 mile track, I'd never even seen one..talk about baptism of fire.. ...fortunately the Lewis Family Racing team was there to help me and I appreciate their hospitality as well..
The sportsman class had a pretty large field...the rest of them were all out drag cars...big slicks and skinnies, the works...all of them trailered in.... I counted only 4 real street cars, including me and Tracy's vette's...
I fought the good fight but went out in the 3rd round...after the 2nd round a front moved through and it rained like a cow peeing on a flat rock...over 2 hour delay and a temp drop of of over 15 degrees...with my LT1 dead cold and the lower temps it was dialing in the dark for me....I dropped 2/100 and, since I was having a rough day at the tree, decided to bump in a bit extra on the stage...this little extra bump helped me tree my second round opponent and put him on the trailer...btw, he was the Division 2 NHRA runner up...sorry pal... ...
The light dropped and I really thought I hit it hard !...I did, to the tune of .489... :( ...I ran it out anyway and broke out by almost a full tenth...oh well.....turns out Tracy was standing by the starting line and said I went in so deep he was surprised I didn't turn out the top bulbs...my mistake....
Anyway, I enjoyed the day, and the racing...it was a very tough crowd but I learned a lot...as for 1/8 mile racing, I kinda like it....everything happens much quicker and the tree is even more important...playing the top end was hard for a newbie like me but the other racers all did it...I just have to get out there and get some 1/8 mile seat time for my brain to react a bit quicker...that and get a damn weather station... :D ...my car ran well and my best time was 8.59 spinning in 2nd gear....

If you want to get more competitive, consider going to the 1/8-mile tracks when you can.
Less 'wear-n-tear' on your car, quicker program (may) equal more runs (and a quicker learning-curve), and you've got the 3 things you REALLY need to race: dial-in, RT, and 'judging' the stripe.
When I 1st tried 660'-racing, I thought :U , but soon I realized the benefits, and I soon noticed the 1/8-mile racers are JUST as good (if not better) on the 1/4-mile, but 1/4-mile racers couldn't 'cut' it (unless they kept after it) on the 1/8-mile.
Even you said the Division 2 R-U was there.....
I still like the 1/4 mile better. GO FASTER  Gotta get your MONEYS WORTH :lolg: :lolg: 1/4 mile = more track time :lolg: Unless it's in your backyark and you can't fit a 1/4 mile in there :D
Glen...you are right... there were excellent racers there...a lot of them were sponsored too !!!...no ducks in that field... :D ...what amazed me was watching the super comp racers judge the stripe while running 4.75.. ..talk about thinking quickly...
I could be dead wrong but I get the feeling by racing these 1/8 mile events it will help my top end racing in the 1/4 mile events....it will "seem" like I have much more time... kinda like when I had a big money pool game coming up....I used to practice on the snooker table..when I went back to the regulation table the pockets looked like big basket....
I already know two things about 1/8 mile racing...it will keep you sharp and focused (you better be) and the payout is equal to the 1/4 mile events I run...

Norm... my backyard isn't quite that big... :D ...I'm not giving up 1/4 mile racing in favor of 1/8 mile by any means...I do plan to race a lot more 1/8 mile events in the future...I am looking around for an 1/8 mile series to run in between the Challenges next year....beware the fuzzy dice next year.. :reddevil
Norm...I was happy to get that guy out of the way but I didn't take advantage of it...my red light was against one of the few "regular" cars running...an F-150 pick-up...I had to give him 3 bulbs.. ...that's rare for me...
Edgar...coming off the new LED's at Bradenton 2 weeks earlier, I was having a terrible time adjusting back to the bulbs...I just went in a bit too far.. :( .. now I get to go back to the LED's again next Friday at Bradenton... :cry
I forgot to tell y'all... I saw a guy run a .009 package yesterday and....he LOST !...the other guy had a .500 light and ran his number with a 5...geez..
