and I don't mean by a Viper...went to the EFCC today and after my 3rd time shot the car downshifted violently into 2nd gear just before the turn off...then, after I picked up my timeslip, it would not shift out of 1st gear... ...I let the car cool down, checked the fluid and TV cable...all OK...still wouldn't shift out of first...tried to manually shift it...no go...finally (thanks Tracy) I got it to shift at 5000 rpm.. ... it was an interesting 3 hour ride home but I made it...
Once again I made the 6 hour trek to and from the track only to not make the first round... ....the sad part is I had the tranny rebuilt and severly beefed up, a new torque converter and new shift kit put in last November just to avoid having a problem like this...I'm done with my rant now and on Monday I'll start trying to see what's wrong this time...my stiff upper lip is drooping a bit but I'll be back...
Thanks guys...I'll slug through it just like Ralph does...I've decided to believe it's a $5 part that failed and won't cost but $50 to fix...this will get me through till Monday when I get whacked again...
Thanks Richard...I appreciate your input...also, thanks to Craig for lending me his ears and butt to try and get it to shift... ...tomorrow I start the quest to see what happened this time...
The car goes back to the shop that rebuilt the tranny on Thursday afternoon...they suspect it could be a valve that came with the Transgo shift kit that they had trouble with on install...got my fingers crossed...maybe I can make the weekend races after all...
It would be the govener or the detent valve one of theese would prevent an upshift. The detent valve should have a gold cone shape spring behind it to prevent sticking. This has been an update in a 700r4 for a number of years.
They did fess up today that when the Transgo was installed last fall one of the valves in the kit had to be ground down 3 times to work... ...then on the test drive the car wouldn't shift and they worked on it somemore...seems to me a call to Transgo to overnight the correct part would have made more sense...oh well..
Thanks Chad...looks like a mistake was made on install...they didn't put in the spring that stops the throttle valve from closing too far...this allows the valve to travel too far and severely restrict the line pressure...this diasables the governor...it then takes about 5000 rpm to get enough line pressure for the tranny to shift.... 2 hour fix...
This year I've felt a bit like that donkey with the cloud over his head but "this too shall pass"...
p.s. is your car running ?...did you get to take it to the CI ?
