Default Rollbar Question in a convertible

I ahve a new C5 vert. My friend and I were planning on going up to a test and tune session and I would take it dowen the track a few times. Well I was on nhra.com and figured out I need to wear a helmet, but I also saw that any convertibles that go faster than 14 sec need a roll bar. I not going to but one in, so are my 1/4 mile plans down the drain? I could have sworn I have seen peopel post vert track times on these forums that don't have rollbars. Thanks for the help.

They usually let you slide a little since the car is already way faster then 14.0 stock. Just go to your track and see what they say after you run. If they tell you you need a bar then you do or they wont let you run

The rule is under 14 sec. for a conv. But most tracks seem to give a lot of slack at test and tunes and private rentals. I went 11.96 and a bunch of low 12's at MIR on a private rental. The local track where I live lets me run 7.60's in the 1/8 with the top down. Then you will run into some tracks (cecil co. ) who boot you for a 11.98 with a hard top. If I was you I would go and have fun with it. Usually they give you a warning and the second time boot you.

That's what I've found. If you're running in elims though they wont let you dial in under 14 without a rollbar or hardtop on.

At IHRA tracks - you are legal to 13.50 with a convertible...

I actually ran 13.39 in South Carolina with my C5 Vert and nobody said anything...

What track are you planning to go to? Someone here probably has specific experience with that track. Sometimes they warn you at tech inspection that you cannot go under 14.00 in a vert. If they warn you during tech that you will get thrown out if you go under 14.00, then I would run a few good 1/8 mile timesruns and let up on the gas after the 1/8th, then give it one good blast on your last run of the night..... which will then be your last run of the night! Not sure about hardtop availability for C5s, but I got a hardtop for my C3 which means I am good down to 12.00.... which is a long ways for me.
