The article says that the distance between the staging beam and prestage beam is 6-8 inches and that the beam is 1-2 inches off the ground. So I guess this varies from track to track. Shouldn't it be the same at all tracks. If so then what are the exact measurements.
Yes this should be exactly the same at every track.....but we all know it does vary some, and that is why we need qual runs at every track to find our "leave spot" and see our 60' different in similar conditions.
When the track staff brings out it's 'approved' wheel, and sets-up the beams, they base their dimensions off of the CENTER of the lane, not the 'groove', where the front tires actually rest when staged.
If the lane has much 'crown' built into-it, the beam 'sees' a higher, and 'longer' (front-to-back), cross-section of the tire, and the 'roll-out' may be a bit 'longer', too.
Of-course, available traction plays havoc with those critical first few inches, too.
