I stopped powershifting a while ago.. Never missed a shift, but too many people have said, "No, don't ever powershift!!" Without researching it I just stopped b/c I was scared of what could happen.
It seems to me that you're not going to mess anything up unless you severely miss, such as accidentally going from 3rd to 2nd, or 4th to 3rd/1st. I know a few people with pretty expensive cars that powershift the **** out of them and never have a problem. What am I missing?

1. Your missing better ET's & the fun of DRIVING it to the max... When I had my 87 5.0 Mustang, & my Camaro Z28 I ALWAYS power shifted.. If you are afraid of breaking the car, than "Lolly Pop" your shifts & have fun at the track.. if you want the "BEST ET" out of your car Drive it Like You Hate It I have always gone by that rule.. & done well at the track...
I powershift, whether it really helps or not remains to be seen. I have only missed a shift twice in competition(in my car anyway), but I have never ground the gears. I know enough to let up if I miss a shift to prevent over revving.
Here's my favorite video(vs Red96Coupe), I powershift here and it sounds better than regular shifting.
I have never come close to shifting in the wrong gear but I have seen people who have done it and the worst that happened in that case was a burnt clutch.(stock).
I used to LOVE keeping the gas matted and giving the clutch a tap, then slamming it in to the next gear. I have a vid or two of my mustang being run down the track in this manner.
It IS hard on the drivetrain...and TRY not to miss a gear. You're already punched, headed towards redline...it could turn ugly if you miss a gear. The revs go right up.
Powershifting gave me about .05 better ET with each power shift.. However - I stopped power-shifting because the risk of breaking parts is a lot higher with power-shifting - especially the 1-2 shift... It's also dangerous if you don't have a scattershield.. You could even lose a leg without a scattershield if the clutch assembly would disassemble...
I do not think .05 sec ET improvement is worth the wear and tear.
Has anybody gotton any better numbers out of powershifting on street tires and DR?
My experience with street tires is that powershifting 1-2 hurts your times. Power shifting 2-3 does not help much. I suspect that the story is different for DRs.
I think that it comes down to where do you want to spend your money...trans rebuilds or engine mods.
The people turning 12.0 and high 11s in stock Z06s are all powershifting. It seems to me that it yields as much as .3 off your ET. 1-2 is pointless b/c your tires just spin. . I think you'd get more from 2-3, but that's also the most likely shift to miss.
I haven't hurt anything yet after several hundred passes.
I bought the car to drive it, not baby it. At the same time I've already had to do a rebuild and I don't want to do that again. I guess the bottom line is don't miss a shift.
