The cars that come out of the water smokeing the tires across the starting line serves a great need of putting a fresh groove of rubber on the track. If you have enough horsepower the tire speed will over come the track and the tires will not stop spinning. If you don't you have no business doing this type of burn out as you don't need to.
Here's a vid Mojo posted that exemplifies perfectly what I'm talking about. I don't know whose car it is and I'm not picking on anyone. The red Vette in the video does his burnout and then keeps it going to dry track with that screech. It doesn’t appear as though he's doing that to dry his tires off, it doesn’t look like he's even in the water that much. It looks more for show to me.
Watch the back end of the car jerk around as it hits dry track. Why not just let off the gas right where he was performing the burnout, pull forward a bit and test the hook? A little test hook can't be any worse for the drivetrain as that vilolent instant shock load. It also gives you some time to think a bit before jumping right to the line and screwing up.
Might want to download that vid so you can back up to the burnout over and over again.
I'm gonna let this horse die after this post and just post a vid this spring on my procedure.
