Default Sheet metal intake

Has anybody given any thought to ceramic coating the plenum and/or tubes? Woud it provide any benefit keeping the intake charge cooler, or would it have a tendency to keep the warmth inside? Thoughts?

I'm starting to scare myself thinking about another way to spend some money

I had my pistons, chambers, and exhaust valves done by www.swaintech.com

I should have done the exhaust ports to minimize exhaust heat x-fer.

The intake IMO would be of minimal gain. The aluminum x-fers heat very easy. The coating would insulate the incoming air. My take on the incoming air, is how much time does it have to actually heat up? Money would be better spent on some type of ram cold air induction

I could see coating the bottom to try to keep the heat from transferring in, but I'd leave the rest alone, to let it dissipate what does get in.

RACE ON!!!

Incoming air temp is what causes the 1% more horsepower for every 10 degrees you drop.

If you can lower the temp 20-30 degrees you pickup a fair amount power...

I'd say its worth it!

On my sheet metal intake....It gets hot while sitting with the engine not running, but as soon as you start it it cools down to almost the temp out side the car. Sheet metal doesnt hold heat like cast aluminum and cools off very quickly....

Maybe the bottom, its a thicker piece of aluminum and "could" hold heat, but not the runners or plenum. I dont think the extra cost would be worth the benifits. It would make very little difference if any. The sheetmetal cools off too quickly from the air entering the engine.

chriswtx, I'm wondering what the runner length is on the intake you are using. Even an approximation of length from the head mating surface to the plenum area would be helpful. Thanks.

id say give it a go. it cant do any harm. but i would try and get a cold feed first as this would make the most diffrence. you would probaly see most gain with F/I.

thanks Chris.

peak power with the small 236 solid cam I am running while breaking in the motor was at 6450 and just leveled off to 6800. I am switching soon to a 246/254(or around there) cam for more top end pull and more lift(going up to .630lift from .568) to better match my heads.
