I need to fit a second O2 sensor bung so I can hook up a separate wide band sensor for tuning the EFI on the chassis dyno over at Tonys (when I get it running, that is). The O2 sensor for the onboard computer is in the left side collector. I can't put one in the same location on the right side as the oil cooler is in the way. Also, since the right cylinder bank is farther back there isn't as much clearance between the collector and the frame as there is on the left, so there is no other place to fit a sensor into the collector or the side pipe.
It looks like I have two choices for putting a sensor bung in the right side, either insert it in a single exhaust tube just ahead of the collector, or put it in the front face of the collector which would work for the chassis dyno (no road clearance issue on the dyno), but also will be where it can be seen when I put the block-off plug in afterwards.
Would it work for tuning to put the second O2 sensor in just a single cylinder's main pipe? I don't really "expect" to tune the injectors differently for each cylinder, although the computer is capable of that. The Hilborn should flow the same to each cylinder, since there is no long/short runners like in a single plenum manifold.
1. You want the end of the WB sensor to be free-draining of condensate (angled down).
2. You want the sensor to 'see' as many cylinders as possible, for accurate tuning.
Depending on the speed of your data recorder, a WB is typically fast enough that you can
'watch' individual cylinder firing events (on a V8) up to ~ 2K RPM. Even if there are no
mixture differences to worry about, it's still a good tool to find things like ignition problems.
Beyond that engine speed it will just be averaging the gas flow.

Thanks for the info. The wide band (second) O2 sensor will only be installed when on the chassis dyno. The EFI operates from it's own sensor installed in the left collector. There is no place to install a sensor further down stream as there isn't enough space between the side pipes and the frame rails and body to actually fit one.
