Default Do u need chromemoly? Its a bear to work with.

Don't know where to by but u may want to search the C3 section for postings. Recently there was a lot of discussion on roll bars and covered it pretty good by a few guys in the process of building/installing. Whats wrong with mild steel? Easier to work with and some guys in C3 just used mild steel. cardo0

Cardo,
Why is chromemoly such a bear to work with? I want to use it because I have heard it is stronger than mild steel and most race car builders I have talked to say use chromemoly...

Default Do the search o' krypto1. The answer lies within.

Chromo is stronger yes and much harder to bend. The tensile strength of mild steel - the point of elastic failure - isn't much lower than the chomo metal. The idea is more give to absorb more energy. Well that's the wishful thinking but the realitly is once u try to bend the chromo stuff u will understand.
Good luck and post ur results. cardo0
