Default Different rod lengths for different cylinders?

I was reading some specs on various SBC pistons and came across a foot note and a table indicating use of a specific rod length in 4 specific cylinders.

For example: In reference to piston part # 14011020, a 12.5 comp dome forged piston, the note reads: "use with 5.7" rod in cylinders 2, 3, 6, 7."

There is no indication what the length of the rods should be in the remaining 4 bores; should they be the same or different??

I thought I knew something about SBCs , but apparently this one slipped by me. What is up w/ this?

Thanks in advance,

P.

the piston will only work on those cylinders because of valve arrangement, that and it only has two valve cutouts instead of four like normal compression pistons have.

Default Rod length: different lengths in same engine??

Sorry it took so long to get back on this. I misplaced the link and just now found it (while looking for something else, of course!).

Here is the link to the reference info where the rod lengths (for 12.5:1 pistons were spec'ed) was found. Still puzzling to me.

TIA,

P.

They are just stating that particular piston uses a 5.7 in rod and can only be used in certain cylinders, I am not sure why but you can bet it has to do with the dome hitting something.

You need 2 parts numbers for a full set of pistons and the other part number (14011021) will fill the remain holes using the same 5.7in. rods.

Go back to your own link. Use 4 of the note 1 pistons with 4 of the note 2 pistons. Couldn't be simpler.
