It seems like most people feel that with a good fuel system and some timming retard a 150 shot is doable on a stock bottom end.

I had KB's smear the aluminum. It completely locked up the piston rings and sounded like rod knock. My buddy had a 383 with KB's and about his 5-6th bottle he had a piston break apart in the pin boss area. His had timing controls and some kind of knock sensor. He's been a N2O man for years. So I know that he had that figured out from previous motors. He just went cheap on the 383.

Most 383's with flat tops end up with about 10.8 - 11.2

IMO - N2O is not if your motor will blow, its when will it blow?

I have CLAIMER hyper's in my motor and spray it with a 200 shot, every now and then. I only spray the 200 about 4 -5 times a year, the rest of the time is a 100 shot when just taking people for a ride.

here's the do"S and dont's to make it live.

DONT
1- detonate it...instant death
2- don't over rev it....that's a slow death
3- IF you can have the builder give some extra ring end clearance

DO
1- retard the timing.
2- run 100 octane or higher with anything more than a 100 shot....a MUST

When I spray a 200 shot it's on straight 112 Sunoco , with a NGK 9 plug and 28 deg TOTAL timing. I also take the shift points from 5700 to 5000, Most spray motors will peak 500-700 rpm lower when on spray.

When i spray the 100 shot on pump gas ( 92-93) I run a autolite 3924 plug and 30 deg total timing.

Cory,
Take a look at the CarCraft 350 HO motor build up. They got IIRC 425bhp out of a 350cid, 10:1, Vortec Headed, XE274, motor. That's the motor a friend of mine is putting in his 72 Chevelle. Should run great...even better in a lighter car, like yours.
EDIT: 440bhp
Engine
