I'm going to begin rebuilding my '89's engine next week. At this point I'm looking at the following cam from Comp Cams. I have to be careful in this build since I live in Calif and have to pass smog. So...what do you think of this:
Xtreme Energy - Computer Controlled
"Good for TPI 305 or 350 with aftermarket chip and upgraded exhaust. RPM's 1500 to 5500
p/n 08-502-8 269 276 218 224 .495 .503 112°"
224* of exhaust on a 112 will give you a bit of an idle Vance.......especially with 350CID +/-. You'd really need to be on top of it for smog compliance I'd think. Take a look at page 146. There's a couple nice cams on a 114 that should idle a lot better with a more spirited stock build
The reason I went with the one mentioned was due to a conversation w/Alvin at pcmforless. He said that if I went with the one on p.46 listed as 08-304-8 (210/220) I'd probably be "disappointed" and that the exhaust should stay below 228 and ideally 225. He felt that he could definately tune me smog-safe with a cam that was a 218/224 and LSA 112.
What do you think?

I think I'd go with Alvin's recommendation in a heartbeat! My only concern would've been a tighter LSA combined with that duration. Go with Alvin man, he's had a lot of success on this forum! Keep me posted, and watch those knuckles!
