I have a 427 BB with a set of Edelbrock Performer heads and by mistake I purchase a new Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap Manifold for it instead of the Performer Manifold. Do you guys feel that installing the RPM manifold on the Performer heads will be a problem? The rectangular ports on the manifold seems much taller that the ones on the head. I will really appreciate any help and information... Thank You.
There are two RPM Air gaps..one for rectangular port heads and one for oval ports..or more appropriately "squovals" or 'rectovals"..as the Edelbrock ovals are sort of a cross between the two.
You can still use the airgap design, but you need the one that matches the heads. Also I hope you have good hood clearance as the Air Gap is pretty tall.
BTW- If you can get it under the hood, the Air Gap is a great intake.
Jim, thanks for your input.
I did some more research and it gets worst, the heads are Edelbrock 60499 heads which are Oval ports TBI heads, and neither the square, nor the oval ports manifold seems to match... I'm really at a loss here. Any help will reallllllllly be appreciated.
Jim, I had the oval port RPM manifold, but since the head ports looked to me like rectangular ports I exchanged it for the RPM rectangular ports. (I should had verify the head part numbers before) The good thing is I can change the manifold back to a oval port type, the ports still wont match, but the will be closer, and you are correct nothing that a bit of grinding wont fix. Do you know what the difference between a TBI head and a standard type is??
Yes, just go back to the other intake. You'll be fine.
The TBI heads are the same as the regular ones, they are just milled to around 100cc chambers I believe. They do well on a flat top piston that you are trying to get some compression out of.
