No lockup on 700R4?
I'm not a tranny man. But it appears to me that the Torque Converter lockup clutches are gone. What else could it be?
The problem is no more torque converter lockup. I had lockup in fourth gear only. I checked right at the tranny plug and it gets 12 volts. So I pulled the pan and bought another lockup solenoid. When I plugged it in it would pick and unpick just like it should. (Later I tested the original and it also works fine)
Is there anything else in the circuit? The oil was again super clean without any sludge in the pan. I found out that the vendor will refurbish the high end converters for @ 1/3 the cost of the new item. Which is kind of a nice warranty program.

George I had nothing but problems with my lock up converter. I could easily break it loose if I was a little too agressive with the throttle. There is just not enough clutch area to hold.
Do away with the 700 and go TKO'
Real race cars have 3 pedals.

I think that the Viper t-56 650 hp model 6 speed is a better idea 2.66 first and .50 OD and I'll just keep running my 4.11 rear and install a rearend cooler

George i had the same problem with my 700r ,,,,,,,,, I made the switch to a tko and no more problems . You just really need that extra pedal .My tranny supplier runs a stang with a puffer and pulls full wheelstands and run 8's with no problems with the tko.

Good to hear from you G-Man! I'm going to pull the 700 this winter and probably go with the TKO 600 RR with a rear gear change.
Did you see my post about being on the pit crew of the # 18 red GT40. It's serial number is 1042.
The owner also had his Bizzarrini (sp?) brought out to the track. Well in one of the 1/2 hour practice run groups. The owner driving the GT40 was about 50 feet infront of his Bizz driven by the shop owner. they were probably going @150 mph on the main straight when the GT40's driver window tore off. They are just glued in place. We we on top of the transporter recording lap times in different places on the track. As the two cars came by we saw a shower of sparkels in the air. We wondered what was that all about.
When the cars came in - Oh how lucky the Bizz was. The plexiglass window had only struck the rivited on right side air intake cowling on the fender. The piece will have to be remanufactured. The Vis driver said he heard a large explosion and didn't really know what happened. He just said he kept watching the gauges and wondering if the car had some mechanical failure.

Hi George ,, the GT40 P/1042 was raced at sebring and daytona in 67 before being painted red with a white stripe . It was on loan to Scuderia Filipinetti for le mans in 67 from Scuderia Brescia Corse . After Le Mans it was run as a Brescia Corse car , after being sold to Augusto Coli . It was originally owned by Umberto Maglioli . It suffered fire damage and was sold back to Maglioli, Italian racing driver Guido Fossati bought it but never got around to rebuilding it . It was purchased by Roberto Castagna from florence Italy who took three years to finish the car . Up until that time 1042 was always Italian owned . Is it still a right hand drive car ? I still have a pic some where in its original livery ,,,,,,,

yes it's still right hand drive and right hand shift. Which is odd for most of the older race cars I've been working on. They are usually right drive and left shift. I sent you the pictures of it from the spring race.

#1042 Just like you named it G-Man. This white Bizzarrini in the back ground
at speed with the window still in it
Front end of the Chevy powered Bizzarrini. With me helping fuel it up

Convertor clutch is actually a hydraulic clutch and pressure plate inside the torque convertor itself. Try a jumper wire set up directly to the tranny case plug that can be controlled from inside the car while driving. If convertor clutch works, at least you can rule out the transmission and concentrate on external inputs.

comp - The problem was the TC from Art Carr. These 3 clutch setups are about $1200. They also sell a 5 and 7 clutch. The GM stock converters have about 19 sq. inches of clutch holding surface. The 3 clutch have about 54 square inches. The Art Carr racing trannies also use 1/2 inch selenoid and lines with the bigger pump to really mash them together fast.
I've just given up on using an auto tranny. I'm now trying to find a road racing type multi disk setup for the TKO600.
I forgot to say that A.C. offered to refurbish my TC for under $400 including changing the stall from 3800 to 3000 in my 9.5 inch.
