Searched the archives without success, so I'll post the question.

What needs to be done to put a 4L80-E in an '81. I was going to replces the TH 350 with a stout TH 400 and Gear Vendors OD, but found a sweet deal on the 4L80-E.

Package included a computer & harness, I guess these are to make it work as it's electronically controlled. Primary concern is getting it to fit in the car.

I know it's longer, but is the 4L80-E larger in diameter? It the bellhousing larger or just the main body?

Any help appreciated!!

Doug-I installed an '95 4L60E behind my '95 LT1 into my '76 vette. The 4L60E is the same size as the non electronic sister tranny the RD700r4. As you already know the 4L60E is computer controlled, and will allow you to change shift points with a key stroke of a computer link to the obd-1 or II serial connector. Check out my web page. It sould help you out. Check out the LINK page also.
