Default 383 Help

Am in process of installing crate 383 in my 64 . The list of what I didnt know was large. I have worked out some problems but am getting frustrated with lack of info. All the corvete catalogs I have are worthless because this is a non factory configuration. Parts stores havent a clue because most of their books dont go back that far.
This engine has vortec heads and ram horn exhaust manifolds The old alternator bracket puts the pulley about 1-1/2 inches to the rear of the water pump and crank damper pulleys. What is the right bracket for this application? Also since I now use a long water pump ( it sits closer to the radiator) the existing lower radiator hose is too long. Since its molded and space is tight --What can I use here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best bet by far is to just get a short water pump and put all stock brackets/pulleys back on it.

Otherwise, you will need the brackets that mount alt on right front of head. They are very common in junkyards etc. You can also get them at GM or Camaro parts places. Look for something from a 70 and up Camaro or Chevelle. You will need the upper bracket that attaches to intake and water pump. Make sure your intake has a boss on front to attach it to or some bolted to water neck housing bolt. You will also need the lower bracket that attaches to water pump with two bolts and angles upward so that a long stud can go through it and alt and attach to one of the head bolt holes. I'm "hoping" that Vortec's have the normal bolt hole config on the ends...I think they do.

If you are not concerned with stock appearance and like a little "flash", check Summit and Jegs for some billet bracket kits. They also have several versions of steel ones for aftermarket installations.

Plus make sure the water pump that came with motor (if you decide to re-use it) is for normal rotation and not for serpentine pulleys (reverse rotation). Many crate motors come with them.

Or you could install a complete serpentine setup if you'r really wanting new style cool!
