Default Exhaust Note and Cam Duration

I've got a 224/218 cam on a 114 lsa that sounds down right MEAN when its idling. I'm running a turbo with strait pipes out the back. I've only had the engine on the dyno, but before I put it back in the car my dyno curve says that i should add some more exhaust lobe into the cam to increase the top end powerband.

My problem is that I really don't want to loose that really mean sounding idle. I'd be willing to give up a few HP for it anyways. It has a pop to it almost that I think is from the small exhaust durration. If I bump the exuast lobe up to 224 do you guys think that it would really mess with the exhaust note??

Lets hear some theories....

The turbo, is the only 'muffler'?

Nah, the engine will sound fine. More than likely you will not notice a big difference with as little of change you are talking about.

How does it sound now? The crackle is more from early exhaust valve opening, and the lope is more from overlap.

Also, how do you have that cam installed? I.e. what is the Intake Lobe Centerline Angle? What leads you to believe that you need more exhaust lobe? I am just interested to know your thoughts on this.

Does this mean you are willing to do a cam replacement for a 224/224 114 lsa? Ask anyone with that cam spec, and they will tell you it sounds great. Let me see if I can get you a link for a listen on a 224/224 114 lsa. http://www.ls1sounds.com/corsa.htm
Click on any G5X3 114 lsa cam and hear the idle.
