I am looking for some suggestions for a "factory looking" 300 hp 327 motor to eventually do. I would really like it to look almost exactly like the factory motor down to the ignition shielding, but yield 400ish horsepower. Is this possible? One of the things I thought of was a 400 s.b. stroked to maybe a 422, aluminum heads (painted of course), roller cam, and an aluminum intake painted for the iron look.
The problems I see are the carb that can support a motor like this and look somewhat stock, finding a good intake that looks stock or close to it and has a oil filler tube but could support 400 hp, and of course the ignition. Is this even possible?
Another part of me says make is a BB clone and find a 427 and do the same to it... suggestions?
A ZZ383 WITH A pREFORMER VORTEC MANIFOLD WILL GET YOU about 405-410 hp and 450 torque....will fit under the hood and you can run 3.36's with ease in the rear.. can make it look close to stock

Sure it is, here's a slew of combo's to check out.
As far as the oil filler opening, I'm sure a machine shop could create one in the manifold for you....
You could do it easily with your 327. I would run a small journal 3.75" stroker crank ( they make 'em for the early blocks), a 6.00" rod, a light weight forged piston. If you have the engine internally balanced, you can use a 327 balancer and flywheel/flexplate.
Your 300 horse engine should have a 461 head. These can easily be worked to flow in the 240-250 cfm range (it will require a competent porter, but the flow numbers are attainable). A 67-68 Z/28 intake is a high rsie dual plane, and it has an oil filler tube. An Edelbrock Performer RPM (not air gap) has a pad for an oil tube. Some Performers also have a pad for an oil fill tube, but they don't all have it. They are good intakes, and became much cheaper once the airgap was released. A carter 750 would look reasonably stock on the Edelbrock intake, and shouldn't be too hard to find.
If your car has the 2.00" rams horns, a step-up to the 2 1/2" manifolds will help some. headers, with a good 2 1/2" dual exhaust would help even more. With the above, it wouldn't take too much cam to make 400 horsepower. You could probably make those numbers with a true 10:1 compression and a LT-1 cam.
