I was looking at the Iron Lighting 220cc heads. Anyone have an idea on these heads? They go for 540 for a unassamabled head price from summit raceing! Which would give me some cash to get it ported if need be!
Are the heads called Iron Lightning for name sake or cause they are made of iron...87 came with aluminum heads so it's probably best to stay with alum. Otherwise I don't know anythiing about them (sorry). Check out AIR FLOW RESEARCH, their heads are expensive but with the right setup, their worth it ,IMO.

87 Vettes rule!!!!!!!
Iron Lightnings are an AFR head, and if your on budget they would be an excellent choice. It looks like they flow enough to 500+hp. I haven't seen any motor buildups using them however, the buildups in vetteland tend to stick to aluminum heads as in the lighter car its a greated percent of the cars weight.
Before you buy those, do yourself a favor and look at the GM fast burn aluminum head. For $545 assembled with 2" hollow stem intake valves and 1.55" sodium filled exhaust valves they can flow for applications in excess of 500hp.
The info I have claims they will fit on any 283-400 small block, except LT1, LS1 and LT4. The combustion chamber on these heads is 62cc.
Check out the lastest copy of 'camaro performance'. They did a head comparision using a ZZ4 block using stock L98 Corvette heads, Vortec heads, and then the fast burn heads.
If I were buying new heads, for the money I'd go with the fast burn in a heart beat.
They're $549 each last time I checked. The stock intake will not bolt up properly (the FastBurn port is to tall so the intake can't seal). Scoggin-Dickey is supposed to be making a TPI base to bolt up to them soon. Not sure it may be in production now?
