Default thermomaster and sensor

I have had a thermomaster from hypertech installed along with a 160 thermostat. The car runs between 165 and 170 degrees when it has been 70-80 degrees out here. I have been told it would passed smog by the shop that installed it but have other sources inform me that it may not since you need to run 195-200, at least. My car is an 87. My question is should i ditch this chip and thermostat and go back to stock or has anyone in here had experience with these things passing in california? I fell for the sales pitch that it would be better for my car to run cooler at its present mileage. kinda feeling like a fool now.
