Default Top end questions/ideas needed

Retiring the L82 out of my '74. Picked up another 350 the other day and would like get it around the 300hp range if possible before I drop it in. The 350 I got ran strong with no smoke and I don't want to get into the bottom end at this point, so just looking for top end ideas.
What I got is:
3970010 block
I268 date
V0927TKT stamp
'78 Truck block which I believe is a LS9 165hp

Will be running Hooker sidepipes and would like to keep my Q-jet & air cleaner so it all fits as stock under the hood. So any ideas to get this thing up to about the 300hp flywheel level

Thanks...Jack

i would get a set of 64 cc heads to get the compression up if you are using a stock 78 shortblock.the summit alum or trick flow alum entry level heads are great.add a comp xe 262 cam and you should be there.i would recurve the dist so you have full advance in by 2500.

Going through the same thing.....want to mod the car but its a Calif matching numbers original car!!
I have the base 350, TH400 with a 308 rear....car won't even spin the tires!!!
Do a search, and there are a couple threads going on now in the C3 Tech section.
IF you not concerned with originality go with the vortec heads. They 30-40 hp alone. New about $550, used about 1/2 of that. The Comp cam XE 262 CL kit with lifters is a good choice. You will have to get an intake to fit the vortec head bolt pattern, but you need to replace the cast iron intake anyway. You will need new pushrods, longer slot rockers and possibly new head bolts. On the exhaust side you need true duals with a pair of low resistance mufflers (Dynomax super turbos, Flowmasters etc) Headers are a big bib plus too.
On a side note I believe the vortec heads have a max valve lift of .450
It all depends on how much you want to spend!!!
best of luck
Mark
