Has annyone installed a rachet shifter in there C4. I've been looking and have had no luck finding one made for the Corvette. I'm thinking about buying one the the 3rd gen Camaro and experimenting with the fit.
If anyone has one, Which shifter did you use and how well does it fit the center console. :chevy
there aren't any.....at least there weren't a year or two ago when i looked. Called every manufacturer. B&M actually used to make one but discontinued due to lack of demand. I have seen people put the camaro shifter in a C4, but you have to modify your console and the boot is way too short. it works but it aint pretty unless you can fabricate stuff to make it look finished. I actual cut a gate into my stock shifter. I was having trouble shifting second (would push it into 3rd sometimes causing a short shift). Now i can throw 2nd as hard as i want and it can't go into third unless i push the shift button. I have no gate on the 2/3 shift though...i still have to be careful with that one.
I was looking at a hurst shifter in the P.A.W. catolog. If I have to cut the console, I thought about ordering a MAD carbon fiber dash kit. With a little carefull triming I should be able to clean up the install with a little custom touch at the same time. :flag
I did it. I have a fully manual valve body trans and must have the ratcheting shifter. So, I got that B&M one for the Camaro, I don't remember the model number, something like 80698 or such. It is their Megashifter. The install didn't go too bad. You do need to do some cutting and trimming around the top of the console to get the top plate of the console to fit down around the shifter frame. The shifter frame bolts to the top of the tunnel without too much trouble. I used nylock nuts so it wouldn't loosen up with all the slamming shifting going on. The rubber boot is too short as you can see from the picture. I showed the car to a guy that does custom hot rod interior and he said for $50 he can make me a real nice leather boot. I just have to find the time to bring the car for him for a couple hours while he does it. I like the position of the handle very much. It looks kinda high in the photo but it is very handy and natural to shift. I do a lot of autocrossing and some road racing and it works great. Other guys that have driven it say they like it fine too.
I am with Ralph on this one except I made A gate in my stock shifter so that I can shift the 1-2 and 2-3 hard used a gate simular to the one in a Hurst Quater stick shifter it takes some time and a little welding but looks stock and perform's flawless.
