Re: Advantages/Drawbacks to a Powerglide??? (TONYS68L36)
Advantages: strength, lightweight, HD/racing parts availabilty, reliable in high hp/tq applications.
Disadvantages: only 2 forward gears, high 1st gear requiring a steep rear gear, fuel economy on the street would be poor, poor rpm/mph ratio, limited top speed.
Re: Advantages/Drawbacks to a Powerglide??? (TONYS68L36)
They are only good in cars that have a super high power to weight ratio. Or class index racing where you want to run consistant and slow your car. PG's in lite cars (dragsters) with 1000+ hp last all year. I used one with closer ratios and a 6500 stall.
But in a street car or anything else they would be junk. You can simulate a power glide to see how well you like it. Start in second and shift to 1-1 drive or if you hace a 6 speed start in 3 and shift to fifth.
