Well I installed my 350 vortec truck motor with the stock damper. It's an 8" damper and turns out it hits the cross member in my '84, doh.
Anyways I was wonder if anyone could recommend a damper for me, it is a stock '97 vortec 350 9.4 to 1 with a 218/224 roller with 1.6rr's and conical valve springs.
Is SFI approval necessary for tech at the track? I'm pretty sure it's not, but I'm just wondering what the approval means.
Can I get away with a cheapy or the stock one off of my '84?
Use the one off the '84. SFI has safety specs for a wide variety of racing equipment. Per NHRA rules, you don't need a SFI approved damper unless you will be dipping into the 10s at the strip. Make sure that the damper marking and the timing tab are compatible, or you may have trouble setting the timing.
