New engine question.
Got a new build engine. I just started it and let it idle for 40 min, fixing the fuel and the timing.
Now i drained the oil to put in new fresh one.
I got no experince with newbuild engines. And I noticed that on the bottom of the bucket ( the one I used to drain the oil in), I can se tiny aluminium colored "flakes". Its not big parts, or its not much, but when you tilt the bucket against the light you can spot it. Is that normal during the break-in?
I checked the rockers and the pushrods for wear, but all is fine there.
I also noticed "darker" areas in the oil, like "soot"/"carbon" in the oil. i guess thats normal, and perhaps could be from the super rich A/F i hade at the first startup?
its a hyd roller cam.
Thanks

Also use a magnet oil drain plug.
I would expect some metal on break in but not eccesive. If u continue to have problems then drop the oil pan and inspect the main cap lower bearings - the lower caps will see the worse of wear and material if any exist. FYI i found metal particles and bearing gouges in my #4 main and #8 rod bearing after wiping 3 cam lobes (wiping my secound cam too).:o It impossible to know how clean the block was during assembly and crate motors will have less cleaning details performed than a DIY built engine (at least mine). But u can buy motor flush additives to use before oil changes - i like seafoam addititve.
Good luck.
