I'm completely lost on my engine-and I Need to know what I have under the hood. I have a 1979, and my VIN number says I've got an L48. However, my block and heads are painted orange-didn't Chevy stop painting them earlier in the 70's? Maybe my Engine Serial Number would help.

If anyone can help me decipher what I've got, I'd greatly appreceate it. Thanks
ZAH is the suffix used for a '79 L-48 automatic. That may indicate you have the original engine. Do the last digits of the other number agree with the last digits of your VIN?
