Default racing fuel filters

I tried posting this in the c3 section but no replies, and i wanted to order one today...

Well I was warned by a forum member to get rid of the glass see thru filter type as they are hazardous and been known to cause fires... Though this filter is back behind the rear bumper, im going to comply anyway cause itll just cause me to break down at some point anyway! lol

So if I am going to replace it should I go with an "in-line style" or a "canister style"? I am using this on a car car that I often race and main purpose is high-performance driving.. I have my fuel pressure set a lil higher than normal and need this filter to flow high enough for 400HP natually aspirated and around 550HP with nitrous... all flowing through this one filter.

Id like to go with a canister since they can be had for ~$40 like this Fram - http://store.summitracing.com/partde... autoview=sku

or should i go with the in-line style like this Aeromotive - http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

On my Vette I have the inline 10 micron replaceable filter.

On my old dragster I used a spin on 2 micron filter with the water seperater dump valve. Race cars that sit can build up water condensation.

Thanks gkull...
I went to go mess around and clean up some fuel lines, and found a Earls in line filter I bought years ago and forgot about... DUH!
So I threw that on there!

Years ago i bought a glass filter thinking that it was nice to have. I showed up at our local NHRA track and they would not let me run with it. I had to cob on a short rubber line just to run.

That def coulda ruined your day!

I just found another problem with my whole setup...
I read the instruction sheet for my Mallory regulator... It says to remove the adjustment screw and the FP should be less than 3psi or a bigger return line is needed. SO I went out to try it real quick and mine stays above 5psi! They suggest for my pumps free flowing rate of 140gph, and guesstimate of return line length of 15 feet, that I need 5/8" size return line.. This is insane! I think im going to try running a 1/2" hose from the return port of regulator into a bucket and see what kinda pressure i get then before I just go and buy 20 feet of hose.. make sure it works
Any thoughts on this return line stuff affecting correct FP under load, and fuel starvation while spraying nitrous?? I would this this would cause the FP to stay high enough, and wouldnt cause a problem??
