I have had a ZZ4 in my 65 coupe for about 5 years. Been and is a great engine. I wanted reliability, power and a warranty. The torque is great. The engine has never balked in any way. Easy install. I am running a Holley Avenger 670 carb.

If you want a hot engine, consider the cam option or the 383.

Would I buy the ZZ4 again? Yes.

I've got one in my hotrod '67 Chevy P-up with a 700R4. I love it. Turn-key reliable and it hasn't so much as hiccuped in 12k miles. It gives me 17 on the hwy and runs fine on mid grade gas. I'd get another in a minute if I had another toy that needed a motor.

I am looking to put a ZZ-4 in my hot rod 53 chevy pick up also, and have you experienced any of the piston noise when the engine is cold?
This is what I had heard, but I am asking one who has some miles and gone through a few cold seasons.

I've never noticed any noise at all. I use 10-40 GTX oil and this thing hasn't required ANY maintenance since its original install tune. Its got a Carter carb on it and I just put a set of ceramic Hedmans on. I'm running a fairly quiet exhaust and I beat this dog every time I drive it. For the money, I'm a happy camper !
