Default 402 block with ls5 heads

Is a 3969854 block and 336781 heads a functional combination? Are there any advantages/ disadvantages?

Anybody have any insight on performance. I don't have cam specs and wont for abour a week. Performer 2 intake or LS5 stock intake.

Yes it is functional, those are really good ovas port heads. A cam along the lines of the 220-230* intake should really wake her up.

A simple upgrade is to increase the exhaust valve size.

These heads have 2.19 Int/1.72 Exh valves. Bumping the
Exh to 1.88 is easy during a rebuild and delivers rewarding
results.

For my purposes back in the day, an Edelbrock C396
dual-plane oval-port spreadbore intake was judged most
suitable. To the best of my knowledge, the C396 is
discontinued, I believe that the Performer 2-0 is its
successor (#2161 non-EGR, #3761 EGR - other p/ns for
special finishes)

Manifold height: A-4.300", B-5.400"
Port exit dimensions: 1.70" x 1.68"

Other manufacturers no doubt offer updated intakes
for use with oval port heads.
