Default Question about storing a slightly used LS-2 motor...

I have a 2006 LS-2 motor that has appx. 3,000 miles and will not be running it for a while...1-2 years; (Long term project car).

The motor is sitting in a frame which is in my garage, but the question I have is; should I put oil in it or leave it dry.

If I put oil back in the motor should I turn the crank over once in a while to keep the lower bearings lubricated or would it be even better to get a starter motor and motor it once in a while to get the oil up into the top of the motor.

(The motor cost a bit and I don't want any corrosion or seals drying out...)

Well to tell you the truth I have seen back up sprint car engines sit bagged up for several years with nothing more done than backing off the valve train. With that said, if it were me and it was going to sit idle for any period of time I would back the valve train off and find a way to pump oil through the engine; the starter idea you have is probably the only way to do it on the LS engines. If you are going to turn the engine over fairly regularly you could forget about backing the rocker gear off and this engine being stock makes it so that you could argue that it won't kill a spring or two but that is something that happens on our race engines so we are pretty **** about it.....pull an engine out of the truck that someone forgot to do that to and have it expire before the night is done and you will never forget it again....
