Smog pump to Vacuum pump conversion???
What about other options for vacuum pumps???
...Moroso Said there pumps were not able to work with everyday street use. Drag race only.
aerospace components sells one as well..very $$. It runs off of the crank pulley...no room to use this setup ....they say the are no other drive systems for that pump.
Also looked into using the 94-96 electric air pump...how reliable is this running this ALL the time.....what if it shuts down??? ....I actually hooked a vacuum gauge to one of these( a new one)..and it pulled only 1 ". That is not enough!
Please post any info/experiences regarding vacuum pumps/ alternatives/ opinions...and pics.
Thanks.....
Actually one of the early issues of GMHTP displayed Julio from http://www.cartek.net/ and his 85 vette. He had his smog pump setup to act like a vacum pump. Dont how well it worked overall but remember speaking to him about it .
Dennis
PS- click on the 10.67 vette and the article will be displayed.

Do you think I am better of saving my money. I would need to buy the pump and low tension rings....should I just keep my motor with the standard rings?
I am running a wet sump system.
Let me know you opinion....Thanks..Tom

The pump pull's vacuum. The pump also pull's oil because of the 6-8 inch's of vacuum that is necessary for the pump to do it's thing. Your going to need to set-up the pulley system so the Vacuum dosent get too high (suck all the oil out of the engine) or too low. Too low make's the pump useless. Then when thing's are correct thru the RPM range of the engine. With the vacuum come's oil. Thing is it (the pump) will pull quite a bit of oil out of a wet sump system. Probably because of excess windage that exist's in wet sump's. The oil on a dry sump system dosen't rest in the pan. No releif valve is used. When you fill the puke tank that your going to need along with the pump. Guess what the oil does ? YAHOOOOO!!!!!
Man I hope that the explanation was ok. But .....The evac. system will work with a little bit of work on A dry system. And the low tension system is the way to go with the evac. pump.
IMO.... put a nice windage tray on the engine. Nice Cheap Easy H/P.
If I confused you in any way let me know.
