Default How 'bout a "Super Sucker"?

No, I'm not talking about a new girlfriend who can suck start a big block Corvette.

I'm talking about a carb spacer that has horsepower and torque gains higher than I've ever seen. Apparently, the 1" spacer provides a 15 hp/10 lb-t gain, and the 2" spacer provides a 22 hp/20 lb-ft gain. Super Chevy magazine, in the March 2002 volume (sheese, it's only December!) tested a 1" Super Sucker carb spacer, and on the dyno they witnessed it actually providing a 14.9 hp and 10.4 lb-ft gain, exactly what was advertised. Which is kind of rare.

Probably not many of us can do a 2" spacer in our tight Corvette engine compartments, but with a drop base air cleaner, a 1" spacer is possible. The spacer is phenolic, and is machined out of a type of plastic, that apparently doesn't melt at engine temps. Plastic IS a pretty good temperature insulator. So I'm willing to give it a try.

Here is the contact information for the Super Sucker carb spacer:

It's kind of funny how each mag has to do the same tests as the others. Chevy high Performance did that spacer test 6-8 months ago.

IMO - every motor combo will very in gains or even losses. The plastic idea is also a heat barrier so it might add power.

I think if you are turning enough R's it's for real. A very good friend had a 355 13:1 hot rod motor built for his '85 track car. The builder dynoed it with and without the spacer. 19 fwhp for real. That was at ~7400RPM.

Only works with carberators, won't work with your LT-4 (psudo-Grand Sport in your signature).

Although if you really just had to add spacers you could probably add about 4 to 6" between the throttle body and the intake without too many modifications.

Hey yoslambo1@cs.com,

That's one cool crossfire you have there, do you have some pics of the engine bay?

Thanks,
