I just installed a set of comp cam springs[977-16] on my Edelbrock rpm heads. I noticed that the inner spring was actually toucting the valve seal. I know the seals will not last long and wonder if there is such a thing as a smaller diameter valve seal? Thanks in advance for any information.

Yes, you can go with the metal shell style valve seals. They have a thin metal shell that fits over the valve guide with either a Viton or teflon integrated seal on top, usually with a coiled wire tension loop. Often times, using these types of valve guide seals will require machining the vlave guide diameter down, they they are usually your only choice.
Monty,
Thanks for the response. I will research this futher as this needs to be fixed. The valve seals will be off their seats and I will be burning oil.

Check out the stock intake seals used on 1996 LT1 motors. They were the metal type on a Trans-AM I worked on, and wouldn't require machine work. It's worth a look.
Check out Crane cams positive seals. #99819 they are rubber seals with metal snaprings that clamp them down around the valve guide. No machining nessisary.
John,
Thanks for the Crane info. I called Comp Cams today and asked them what they would recommend with these springs. They gave me a Comp Cam part number 503-16. He said these would clear the inside diameter of the spring. Has anyone used these seals ?

Trust me man, i been that route, the Comp cams 503's require machining of the guides to install. The Crane street performance seals do not. Give the Crane 99819's a try. they should clear the spring since they are a bit smaller then the standard umberlla seals. You can get thru jegs or summit. The controll the oil very well. the run about $20 for a set of 16
