What would be the HP differance between these cams
I have a buddy who likes the motor I have built in my 69. He is looking to do the same thing in a 68 vert, except he does not like the idea of a solid roler. He does not want any hassle of doing the valves. I even told him I would do the adjustments for him, he said he would not let me any where near his car with tools :chevy
My motor is a 454 +.030
Holley 850 flows 920
Edelbrock RPM Air gap
Edelbrock RPM heads
10.5 JE
L-88 rods
Hooker super comps 1 7/8
Roller rockers
MSD everything
My cam is a solid roller .646 .653 242 and 246 @ .050
I think my friend will lose a lot of HP going with the cam he wants to run it is
.552 .555 230 and 236 at .050
I am thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 hp.
Re: What would be the HP differance between these cams (69 N.O.X. RATT)
DD2000 has your engine with the solid roller cam & R-Port heads putting out peak HP & TQ of:
547HP @ 5500RPMs
563TQ @ 4000RPMs
That's with small tube headers and mufflers.
DD2000 has your friend putting out about (w/ same setup except cam):
472HP @ 5500RPMs
518TQ @ 4000RPMs
That's with a hydraulic flat tappet cam similar to the Comp Cams XE274. He's leaving a good bit of power on the table with that cam choice. If money isn't an issue I would recommend that he go with a hydraulic roller cam.
