Okay, I've about had it doing internet searches...
I've determined that I really want to move to an IR setup on my 350 and I'd like to find out all of my options for a non-custom intake manifold (read cheap!) I'd love to get a Moon cross-ram, but the only ones I've seen are by Inglese and sell for a grand. :smash:
Are there any other manifolds that are IR based? I know of Hilborn and may go that route, but am just curious about any others that I could be on the lookout for.
One possible manifold I might be able to use is Holley/Weiand #5954. It's a dual quad setup, but appears to have individual runners, unlike edelbrocks c26 which doesn't (even though it looks like it). Has anyone used one?
Are you speaking single plane versus dual plane intakes??? The cross ram is almost impossible to tune at street RPM's. The Edelbrock is good to about 350 HP, I've read a lot of testing reports,,Offenhouser sell both a tall dual quad and a short dual quad,,these are NOT tunnel rams,,,and they are what is called 360 dual port which is actually a single plane intake divided in half for better low end torque,,I think this is what you are looking for,,BUT you have to use Edelbrock or Carter carbs (500 CFM for a 350)...the Holleys will only fit with adapters and that I never recommend,,but really nothing wrong with the Edelbrocks anyway. They are available through PAW, just order their catalog.
The intakes that I'm referring to have individual plenums for each cylinder. Most of the dual-quad intakes (including cross-ram types) have plenums that feed 4 cylinders, or at best are split into banks of two.
The Moon crossram is setup for sidedraft Webers and has individual plenums for each cylinder (take a look at Twinnie's setup!). While it is known that these are hard to tune, I'm inclined to put throttle bodies on with EFI instead.
One of my goals is to keep it all under the hood. A moon intake is the best solution, but then again, I'm having a hard time finding one. A Hilborn would work just as well and at worst case, a dual quad intake with custom fabricated plenum adapters. Unfortunately my options right now seem to be limited to finding a Hilborn (or any manifold that will accept Webers) since most of the dual quads aren't true IR manifolds.
Well considering that their tall plenum intakes retail for $1374.99 I'm guessing that you're probably right! And that means it's something I probably won't be investing in. :cry
There are a couple of guys out there doing weber set ups set up for efi. One is Imagine Fuel Injection. Phoenix AZ 602-272-6474. I think they all think they are worth about $3K. It has been a long time since I talked to them so maybe they have rationalized that low cost = high volume and adjusted the price. Post what you find if you call them
the main advantage is being able to run a huge cam with no intake contamination from high overlap. 650 street HP would be no problem from a 350.
I was going to do this but i passed because:
1. high cost about $4k.
2.entire engine would need to be changed to take advantage of the set-up. Add thousands more.
3. i am lazy
4. i am happy with 400hp.
5. experimentation required(see#3)
You're playing an expensive game.........nice, but EXPENSIVE. Here's a nice site for IR manifolds: http://www.kinsler.com
