There is a Q&A forum. According to Stewart, you are looking at about 2HP at 6000RPM to drive a good mechanical pump. Definitely makes it not worth the electrical hassle and short life, in my opinion.
I have a meziere and have personally put over 13k miles on it in less than a year without any issues whatsoever. I also know about 3 other people locally who have never had a problem with one. They don't cost that much more than a stock replacement and have just as good a life expectancy while putting about 7 hp to the ground.
All the people I know are running them on LT1 cars though, so I don't know what you would do about your belt.
Im doing one right now on a l98 -though it is a twin turbo its still the same belt routing. Removed the air pump next to the alternator and the diverter valve next to the air conditioning pump. belt goes across the top of the alternator straight over to the air conditioner below the throttle body. You can get any length of belt you need at a auto parts store-its just a trial and error thing to find the right length.
