OK guys, I "may" be ready to get a set of aftermarket heads here soon. Maybe june timeframe so I'm just doing some resaerch now. If I do, I'll plan on doing the full superam setup and mostlikely a 74219 cam unless theres a better one out there. I need to be as cost effective as possible. Car is street driven daily. I've read alot but would like to hear from some members like Beach Bum, Monty, Ralph and the like. The AFR's look like a good choice but seem a bit pricey. I could do a good 'street port' on my current heads for about $800 at a local shop but it's hit or miss with them if they get it right or get them worked over to make good power. I'd like to stay alum as well, allthough the midlift flow numers on the vortecs are outstanding considering what they cost. How about the tfs twisted wedge or trick flows? TPIS does the 113 heads for $1500 exchange. Seems a bit high to me, is it? Thoughts, opinions?

Russ, I am installing a set of Trickflow 23's along with a Lunati custom grind cam and a few other goodies this weekend  I had my engine builder mill the heads .025 to up the compression a bit. His opinion on the Trickflows was that they seem to be quality heads now that flow pretty good! He showed me some Canfields that he uses on his motors and all i can say is when i buy heads again, it will definately be Canfields

Red 90,
I just checked my records, and I can tell you I ordered my Twisted Wedge Trick Flows, August of 1994.

Since they were a new company in '94...it did take me a year to receive them
(13 months actually...Center-Bolts were put on the backburner, because orders were slow to come in for them). I knew I was going to eventually go to another set of heads...so I took a chance, and waited patiently.

I can also tell you, they are still on my engine, and make gobs of horsepower.

I paid $699 for the pair, and these were Center-bolts (TFS-31400003).

I've done nothing to the heads (installed them right out of the box). I figured, if they didn't do the job...I'd yank them back off, and go with Brodix. I can't begin to tell you how pleased I've been over the years.

At the same time, I installed TPiS' ZZ9 cam and lifters, and the only problem I had with the whole install...was the fact that I had to go to 'longer' pushrods.

I have no idea what Trick Flows are selling for these days, but I would never hesitate to do it all over again.

Good Luck!!

Well, the trick flows seem to be a popular choice. I've done some reading on them and heres what I've found so far.

I would most likely get the 1.46 dual springs that handle up to .600 lift. The 1.47 singles handle up to .540 but the 74219 is .560 lift with 1.6 RR. The smallest chamber I've seen is 64cc, dont know what that will do for CR. My stock ones are 56cc or thereabouts. Looks like I can pick up a set of these with a cnc profiled chamber from http://www.totalengineairflow.com for about $1100

Heres some flow data from trick flows website.
http://www.trickflow.com/product/hea...flow_chart.htm

I dug out my sept 2000 issue of gmhtp and looked at the flow numbers from their 'just the facts' cylinder head flow test and they are about the same as these, maybe a tad lower but not much. So far these seem to be the best option unless anyone else has some feedback. I'm not in a big hurry so I can continue to watch, listen and learn from this thread for a while.

DART PRO 1'S - I love mine:) They are the only aluminum head you can get made from 355T6 alloy (Not 356T6) They claim 355 alloy is stronger. I bought my Darts from Jegs. 200cc intake, 64cc chambers & angle plug.
I noticed a huge increase in power. If I had to do it again I would go with more intake volume - 215.
I've heard about problems with Summits Trick flows.
Ask gkull.

Below is a cut and past of a post I posted on the Cross Fire Vault about a vendor with some pretty good prices on heads. Note: Don't overdo the heads. You engine is a high torque, relatively low reving engine. Wth that cam and the super ram, unless you really port the super ram, you are done at 5800 rpm. Don't go with heads that make power from 3000 to 7000 rpm, you'll never get there, and you won't have the low end torque that makes your car run as well as it does. Go with a head that matches your cam, intake combo. Lingenfelter likes the L98 heads, with his port and polish job. Makes impressive horsepower. If you are staying at 350 or so inchs, don't overdo the port and polish. Get Lingenfleter's book on small block Chevy's and good luck

Russ:

You can't go wrong with the 219 and the super ram. AFR 190's(SR and 219) have sent ralph in to the mid 11's. I know you're not looking to drag race very often. A mild port-polish the cam and heads...and some prom work..and you'll have a VERY quick street car!

Good luck.
