C2 Master Cylinder Clearance Issues W/BBC
Anyone ever mess around with the master on a 65/C2? I am looking for options to run some these BBC GM performance valve covers. The factory style dual master won’t clear. Seems everything thing I see that may fit has vertical bolt pattern... Anyone know of something? Or any viable mods to change things up... I have tortured all the web sites, although unless you have something in hand is a geuss at best. I seem’s a 2 inch dia is a nice dia to clear the covers. I have been told welding these covers is sketchy at best? I dunno I don’t tig... They are very thick V covers and would seem OK to weld.....
Thanks in advance,
Denis
If the non-power brakes master cylinder unit is causing interference, you might be able to switch from the 1966 early wide body unit to the narrower 1967+ style. (I don't remember any 1965 models having a dual master cylinder from the factory.)
Now for the fun part... Having raced a BBC Vette in the 70's with IMSA, we lowered our L88's and moved them back a tad to lower our center of gravity to improve the handling. You may have to do the same to achieve the clearance you need. (Just realized that moving the engine back significantly requires a custom drive shaft.)
Another solution is the swap over to aftermarket units like dual Tiltons or Girlings which will require fabrication to the firewall and brake pedal linkage. (You'll need dual units to maintain the braking power needed for the Vette's power.)
If all this seems too much, changing the valve covers back to the originals may be your best option.
Good luck with the change(s)!

Looking at the Paragon Corvette website, it appears that the '65 shared the same "wide" body, dual M/C as the '66.
