Default Angle of coil?

OK Is there any reason you should or could not run a coil at any angle? I had mine at about 45 degrees. I see in some pictures some have it horizontal I know vertical is ok but what about angled or horizontal? My coil wire has turned to ash on two occasions. It burned the end that goes in the coil off? I just replaced the wires and have not tried it yet but wonder what was doing that.

INMYBLOOD,
I believe a coil is oil filled (almost full) the oil cools the coil so when you lay it down some of the windings are not in the oil. In my MSD directions they suggest a vertical mounting position. ...redvetracr

OK it was a MSD coil and the new one is also. It burned the tower partially off last time it acted up. Any idea about this? Really old wires? Or was it heat in the coil? It is all hooked up right. It is all MSD stuff?

INMY,
I guess it could be the "resistance" in the coil wire BUT mine is mounted at an angle also. You might consider investing in a call to MSD customer service. After you check the condition of the wires and wiring. ...redvetracr
