Default Idler Arm Remove

Doing a body-off on my 67 roadster and will be sending out various hardware for re-plating.

Any thoughts on how to remove the idler arm from the steering member that it's attached to. It looks as if it is setting in some type of nylon bushing. Does it press out? I'm looking to have it zinc plated.

Second request, a recommendation for a plating shop to re-apply zinc and black phosphate coatings to my nuts, bolts and misc. components? Does not have to be local I will ship by mail if needed. Looking for a good reputable shop. Once I mail these out I need to know that my nuts will be in good hands! I do not have to tell you the indexing I have gone through this weekend recording size, finish, type and head markings. I am located in NJ, but as I side I will ship via mail.

Thanks,
Jeff

You may want to re-post this query (with a link to this thread) in the Factory Correct Resto section of the forum. Those individuals will have more experience with plating. It wouldn't hurt to buy an NCRS judging manual for the '67 as that book will give you the factory correct plating/finish for most screws, bolts, and nuts. For bolt & nut manufacturer identification, try obtaining a copy of Joseph Tripoli's Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide 1953-1972.

As for the idler arm, that can be pressed out if you've removed the relay rod assembly from the car. (I've used pickle forks in the past; however, I wasn't refurbishing the idle arm just merely replacing it.)

I haven't worked on a '67 in about fifteen years so I can't remember if there is a nylon bushing involved or not. However, it's been my experience working on restoring Vettes that most, if not all, nylon bushings take a set when installed such that removing them destroys the part and requires a replacement.

Hope this helps!
